The Russian Orthodox Church uses the calendar the early Christians used, the "Julian Calendar", used during the time of Christ. The rest of the world uses the Pope's calendar, the Papal Gregorian calendar. Therefore on the Julian calendar the Russian Orthodox faithful celebrate Christmas on December 25th but on our calendar it's January 7th.
