"This is a holy night, this night of salvation". Most Russians are Orthodox Christians. They celebrate Christmas on December 25th per the Julian calendar that was used during Christ's time. The world uses the Pope's calendar now, the Gregorian calendar, which changes the original December 25th to January 7th.
