COVID-19: NHS chiefs warn of 'third wave' of cases amid concerns over Christmas relaxation
Boris Johnson has been warned that a further relaxation of restrictions over Christmas could trigger another wave of coronavirus infections.
"The reality is the progress we've made as a whole is at the lowest end of expectations," according to NHS Providers CEO Chris Hopson.
NHS Providers, which represents health trusts in England, has told the prime minister in a letter to exercise "extreme caution" when making the decision to move any areas into a lower COVID-19 tier.
The coronavirus tier system is due to be reviewed on Wednesday, two weeks after it was first imposed in November.
