Thompson walked into the Pit Stop convenience store and, after asking Linda for something behind the counter, pulled out a handgun and forced Linda into a corner and tied her up. He then forced Della into the corner after she walked into the store, and tied her up, covering her eyes. He then poured lighter fluid on both women, before setting Della on fire, then fleeing with the money from the register. Linda freed herself and helped to put out the fire.
