There are many advantages as well as drawbacks to President Trump's new tariffs. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick pointed out a few of those on Wednesday, but in his musings he also highlighted what is by far the biggest reason these tariffs are absolutely necessary today.

When the White House and conservative talking heads talk about bringing back manufacturing to America, they miss the crucial timing of the technological renaissance that's taking place today. It isn't just bringing back more jobs for today. It's about not missing out on the explosion of high-tech jobs that are going to be flooding the market in the next 5-10 years.
