A suspected Iranian drone has struck the CIA station inside the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, marking a major escalation in Tehran’s expanding retaliation campaign across the Gulf. A source told Reuters the CIA facility was hit, though there was no indication it was the intended target. Saudi authorities confirmed the embassy compound was struck by two drones, triggering a limited fire and material damage, while a reported U.S. State Department memo cited by The Washington Post said part of the roof collapsed. Personnel were ordered to shelter in place. The strike comes amid a widening regional war that began after U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28 — an operation that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and top commanders, prompting massive retaliation. Since then, Iranian missiles and drones have targeted U.S., Israeli and Gulf sites, including oil infrastructure. Saudi Arabia says drones were intercepted near Ras Tanura refinery, while tensions continue to surge across Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE and Israel.
