The 2-year-old mare thrashed about in the mud. She was losing the battle to stay alive. While her powerful hind legs scrambled to find solid footing in the sludge, she pawed at the rim of the mudhole with her front legs. Every movement turned up the sludge and sucked her deeper into the bog. After two hours, most of her body was submerged. She was exhausted and on the verge of giving up. Then, when all seemed lost, a miracle happened. A man rescued her in the nick of time, and when she was finally out of the mud, she thanked him in an unbelievable way.
