Karen was waiting at a bus stop in Sunnyvale to catch a bus back to her home in Palo Alto after visiting with her boyfriend, when Ramirez attacked her. Ramirez raped her, then stabbed her 59 times, before leaving her to bleed to death behind a nearby retaining wall. He was tied to the crime by DNA evidence in 2022.
