Hard hats and helmets will NOT stop bullets when shtf, but they can avoid some head traumas. If you can afford kevlar helmets go for it, but if you can't afford kevlar, having a basic hard hat could keep you from suffering head trauma from flying debris, slip and falls and other head injuries. And you can paint them with flat camo colors to enhance your camouflage.
