Richard Wurmbrand Nicolai Ionescu (March 24, 1909 – February 17, 2001) was a Romanian Christian minister who was imprisoned and tortured by Soviet-aligned Marxist communists in Romania. Marxism's metaphysical worldview is state atheism and every Marxist state, whether communist or socialist, has resulted in degrees of persecution for religious adherents. As a result of years of imprisonment and torture from those on the left, Wurmbrand was eventually ransomed (e.g. government "communist" officials were bribed to release him) and began a ministry in the West teaching many about the persecution of Christians behind the Iron and Bamboo curtains of the then 20th century.
