What are the facts of the case?

Leo Max Frank, in charge of the National Pencil Company, raped and murdered a 13 year old girl named Mary Phagan [known as the 'Georgia Peach']; then tried to blame the event on first his night watchman, then a suitor and possible rival, before settling on his highest paid employee, Jim Conley...but the evidence all led to Frank's complicity. Refusing to be cross-examined, he nevertheless admitted to being at the scene of the crime as the crime was being commissioned, thus, a jury found him guilty and sentenced him to death...only to have his counsel, Governor John Slaton, commute the death sentence and had arranged for life in prison, but before he could be removed from the influence of the now-cheated townspeople, the Knights of Mary Phagan assembled, absconded with the guilty party, and meted out good old American justice. Frank was given a posthumous (((pardon))) that does NOT absolve him of the brutal rape and murder of Mary
