For decades, this show has been rerun, rebooted, and recast with a new virus starring in the lead role. Every time the plot starts with a pathogen and the danger of infectious disease. There’s panic, PCR tests, and face masks. And at the end, salvation in the form of vaccines.

At this point, the story is a stale, well-trodden, tired cliché. And coronavirus is simply the latest spinoff.
