Unusual moments of a heartbreaking new CCTV footage, capture the last move of the US cargo plane crashing shortly after takeoff. In the accident on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 5:13 p.m. local time, a cargo plane McDonnell Douglas MD11F operated by United Parcel Service since 1991, plummeted from the sky seconds after leaving runway 17 at Louisville International Airport in Kentucky. En route to Honolulu, the aircraft powered by three GE CF6-80C2D1F engines, failed to take off and plunged into the ground in a massive fireball after reaching an altitude of only about 175 feet. The aircraft registered N259UP, had reportedly been retired from passenger service 11 years and 9 months before today's accident.
Authorities indicate that the aircraft, carrying approximately 280,000 gallons of fuel at the time of the trans-Pacific flight, exploded on impact, sparking a fire as it crashed and lighting up the night sky. Hundreds of meters of flames and thick black smoke caused widespread damage at the airport, while debris scattered surrounding buildings on the ground. Details of the extensive destruction following the crash reportedly destroyed UPS shipping facilities including the UPS Supply Chain Solutions warehouse, a recycling plant, and a truck parking lot, immediately after the plane left the airport's runway. Police issued a shelter-in-place order for all populated areas within a 5-mile radius of the airport, stretching north to the Ohio River.
At least 7 people were killed and 11 others injured, and that number is expected to rise. According to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a large fire is burning, and all flights at the airport have been suspended. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause.
